Musical road trip with West African fairy tales

Do you know this?
It's bedtime and you don't want to go to sleep.
Your mother has just told you one last story and is about to leave the room.
You try to pass the time by asking all sorts of questions
that can't be answered 1-2-3.
Why is the squirrel so mean to the elephant?
And can the swallow really tell the future?
And why did the tortoise go into the dark forest?
Just close your eyes," my mother says, "and ask old, wise Amadou.
He has all the answers.
But who is Amadou, and why do I always have to ask him everything?
Door closed, light out!

Later, much later, I discovered that Amadou was real.
That he had bright blue eyes and a magical diary in which you could really find all the answers to all your questions. That's the book I went looking for....

Join for the ride?

Amadou is a whirlwind musical road trip inspired by West African folktales and the work of Malian writer Amadou Hampâté Bâ. A journey that takes you to a bevy of chirping aunts, desert singers, and talking baobabs.

Storyteller Aminata Demba gathers the audience in an intimate space and takes you on an exciting journey into Amadou's book room. Amadou is an ode to the art of storytelling. About what it's like to be human. To grow up. To live together and to walk the path of life. The audience travels, feels, looks, tastes, thinks and listens along...

Amadou
Aminata Demba (concept and acting), Aminata Demba & Mieke Versyp (text), Jo Roets directing), Peter De Bie (scenography), Sam Gysel & Issa Ndour (music), Laika (production and technique)
