Annahstasia has a warm, soulful voice that sits somewhere between Nina Simone, Bill Withers and Janis Joplin. Although often labeled R&B, her music is rooted deeper in folk and the classic singer-songwriter tradition.
After impressive EPs and a tour with Lenny Kravitz, her debut album "Tether" is about to be released, recorded at the legendary Valentine Studios. With producers who have worked for Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey, it promises to be big.
Back in 2023, Democrazy, VIERNULVIER and Kunstmest invited Annahstasia to the Ghent Botanical Garden (GUM) for the Palmarium concert series. It was immediately clear that this Nigerian-American singer-songwriter was a talent to watch. Her warm, soulful sound is reminiscent of icons like Nina Simone, Bill Withers and Janis Joplin. Although her music is regularly described as R&B, it is rooted deeper in the folk tradition, with the classic singer-songwriter as its inspiration.
She has released a couple of hard-hitting EPs and has had the opportunity to open for Lenny Kravitz. Meanwhile, her debut album, Tether, is about to be released. Recording took place at the legendary Valentine Studios in Los Angeles. She worked with producers Jason Lader (known for his work with ANOHNI and the Johnsons, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey), Andrew Lappin and Aaron Liao. Suffice it to say, this is going in the right direction.
