The improvising collective The Rising Moon has an unusual approach. Led by guitarist Willem Heylen (aki, Cinema Paradiso, among others), on the one hand they focus on meditative music with slowly evolving carpets of sound and subtle textures that slowly immerse you in sound. On the other hand, they opt for an unusual positioning of musicians and audience, in a spatial soundscape.
The project grew out of jam sessions with various musicians with a common goal: to immerse oneself in sound, looking for exploration of atmospheres and textures. After a long break, the project is revived with a brand new lineup.
The Rising Moon
Willem Heylen (guitar), Hanne De Backer (baritone saxophone, bass clarinet), Stan Maris (accordion), Ruben De Maesschalck (bass guitar), Jonas Boutsen (drums, percussion)
The essence remains: the musicians, all young adventurers at the forefront of young jazz and improvisation, are committed to meditation. With patient improvisations that lead the listener completely into a gentle world of sound.
Playing with positions makes the experience even more special. What if the band does not stand on a stage in front of the audience? What if you allow the musicians to play around the audience, or even to move during the performance?
As a listener, you are "in the sound", which means you will experience the music much more intensely.
